The OCVA innovative In-Situ-Nutrient Remediation Program is built on years of research and significant resources to provide the Chesapeake Bay with thousands of sustainable jobs and billions of oysters for the restoration, renewable commodities and other ecological benefits..
The Virginia Department of Environmental Quality issued Bay Certificate 001 to the Oyster Company of Virginia in March of 2015. EPA is now reviewing this program as a Best Management Practice (BMP).
ISNRP develops specific agreements with entities needing to offset, mitigate or reduce their nutrient loadings, opening nutrient bank accounts that provide annual remediation credits while creating sustainable jobs, accelerating fish and reef habitat and providing resources for restoring streams, outfall ditches and wetlands as well as those waterfront communities and families devastated by the combined effects of development, disease and overharvesting. ISNRP is a powerful tool for complimenting the land-based technologies for restoring the health of our Bay, preserving our natural resources and improving our quality of life.
